MEMORIAL RESIDENCE
Location: HOUSTON, TX
This classically designed home is beautifully placed on a unique wooded lot in the Memorial Park/Crestwood area in Houston. We were contracted to design this home from blueprint to finished product. The internationally renowned architectural firm of Ike Kligerman Barkley was brought in to articulate a Federalist style. We were involved with the entire interior, including finishes, furniture and lighting.
“Furnishings from around the world are masterfully blended with Russian artifacts and pieces from the Empire and Neoclassical periods.”
The Results
We selected a timeless white color for all of the woodwork package and contrasted it with paint colors of gray, platinum and charcoal. The different patterns and styles of all the wall coverings add a layer of depth and interest. For the hardwood floors we chose a dark walnut in a high polished finish. The tile package is a mixture of Italian white Carrera marble and gray limestones. A variety of honed and polished marble was utilized in sizes that varied from mosaic, large scaled tiles to slabs. For the client's very special art collection a focused lighting package was required to highlight each unique piece. Our discriminating clients entertain frequently and wanted a very specific look that would enhance dramatic appeal, especially at night.
One of the highlights of this home is the large-scale modern farmhouse kitchen, walk in coffee bar/pantry and breakfast area. Aesthetics were in the forefront of our minds, but also function for everyday use and frequent catered events. The clients required ample storage for dishes and serving pieces. Furnishings from around the world are masterfully blended with Russian artifacts and pieces from the Empire and Neoclassical periods. The overall European feel to the home is understated and provides a collected look that highlights their travels around the world. The of multitude of antiques were combined with contemporary pieces, as well as specific works of art to create the compelling mix. The furniture also includes many French, Italian, and English pieces, along with Russian furniture, art and accessories from their already large collection.
We continued a color palette of gray, platinum and charcoal for the upholstery fabrics and draperies. Accents of smoky gray and gold add warmth. Custom carpeting and area rugs are throughout the home and each pattern was selected to bring a specific personality to every room. Drapery and window coverings play a large part in the design concept of the home. This ensures a pleasing backdrop that enhances the entire look and would fit the style of each room.
